TV Bank Corporation
TV Bank Corporation., a company of the SOFTBANK Group, (Head Office: Minato-Ku, Tokyo; Representative and President: Masayoshi Son; hereinafter TV Bank) will start a service to distribute content by signing up content holders and employing the BBbroadcast overlay multicast video streaming system based on peer to peer (P2P) technology. TV Bank will support concurrent distribution of video content to viewers numbering tens of thousands by providing the video streaming system for operators that distribute video content on the Internet. For the first undertaking of the service, it was decided that the system would be used for TBS BooBo Box (http://www.tbs.co.jp/bbbox/), an Internet pay - per-view video distribution service operated by TBS. The service using the BBbroadcast system will start live content distribution (Windows Media Player, 768kbps) from 9:00 a.m. on February 11, 2007.
BBbroadcast is a overlay multicast video streaming system developed jointly by TV Bank and Roxbeam Media Network Corporation, an affiliated enterprise of the SOFTBANK Group. It is built on the P2P technology called Overlay Multicast that enables concurrent distribution of high-resolution video content to a large number of viewers, while dispersing the network load. This can be achieved by duplicating and forwarding the data from a server among connected users’ PCs in a sequential manner. This system has already been used for the distribution of video content via the "Yahoo! Streaming" video content portal (http://streaming.yahoo.co.jp/) provided by Yahoo Japan Corporation, and proved to be effective in attracting the maximum concurrent accesses by approximately 49,000 people, and 120,000 total users, in the broadcasting of an event in the past.
TV Bank plans to propose contract-based distribution service options aggressively to both domestic and overseas TV broadcasters while enhancing BBbroadcast functions, as well as to operators that distribute video content on the Internet.
